This film also includes one of the most exciting discoveries made in recent times, the excavation of the golden mummies. An astonishing two hundred bodies were unearthed, middle-class families, parents and children, covered in gold. In 1996, Dr Zahi Hawass was excavating at the pyramids in Cairo, when he heard that an underground chamber had accidentally been found, in the western desert. Hawass subsequently orchestrated one of the largest excavations ever to take place in Egypt.
