The inspiration came on a rare sunny day after a slew of dark and rainy ones. I was walking down the street and nearly collided with a person who was on their phone refusing to look up at reality until the last possible second. They had their head in their phone and their brain was on the net as they kept their body in motion on autopilot.

I quickly noticed a pattern in lower Manhattan, so I kept walking around and shooting the same occurrence. As the edit came together later that night I started writing a stream of consciousness down in text edit. I decided I didn’t want to edit it, but instead, I decided to copy and paste certain sections in random sections. I just think making it random seemed to add an element of chance and freshness. I used the computer to dictate my words because I felt like having a computer voice would be a better representation of subconscious thoughts.

I’ve been drawn to the mixture of high and low brow concepts and using that language to reflect on the divide in not only our country but in the world right now. After I have a nice mixture or conflict I want to add my own perspective and subconscious in an attempt to relate with people and share feelings. The direction of this struck me as another angle and representation of how humanity is separated from one another irl sometimes. The edit hopefully has a little humor to its somberness and shows why it’s okay to stay home right now.
